Real time Location battle

Google maps have announced that they will be releasing new features of real time location share. The feature allows you to share your current location with a specific timing to a specific person. And as you are driving, you are able to provide an up-to-date ETA.

The matter of fact is, Wechat had this function since 2014. Wechat is a Chinese-made, free, cross-platform and instant messaging application developed by Tencent with 864 million active users as of 2016. WeChat provides text messaging, hold-to-talk voice messaging, broadcast (one-to-many) messaging, video conferencing, video games, sharing of photographs and videos, and location sharing. It’s real time location sharing allows users to share location from a chat personally or to a group. New features including PTT during real time location sharing.

You might hate it. Those who are the type that tells your friend that you are on the road but in fact you are able to leave the house, then this might not be a good news for you.

You love it. For those surprise parties, this is a good way for a perfect catch of timing. Google did a good example for this scenario.

Google had been leading in the software and hardware innovations but most of them did not received good support during it’s launch. Taking example Latitude which was launched in 2009 with the same function but didn’t went well. Same goes to people thinking Snap’s video recording sunglasses much cooler, a few years after Google glass.

There certainly would be pros and cons with the constant updates of tech gadgets or services. We will just have to see which suit us the best and using them without bad intentions.
